Press & about
We’re building an open, expressive, portable instrument you love to live with. Reviewers and press: everything you need is here, and we’re glad to help with more.
The short version
Capsule Lab is a founder-led, vertically integrated shop in Vancouver, Canada. Its first product, LAB-1, is a premium portable instrument — synths, sampler, drum machine, a real multi-track recorder, and a pressure-sensitive surface for expressive play — that runs Capsule, an open instrument-platform with a genuinely open plugin SDK and a source-available OS. Each unit is hand-assembled and engraved with its own serial. The goal is an instrument that grows with a community and is worth keeping for years.
Founder
Capsule Lab is led by a published musician and former Google engineer who designs and hand-builds the instrument. The recurring series “In the Lab” shows the real work — sound design, hand-assembly, and music made on the device.
